National Night Out in Des Moines 2026

National Night Out in Des Moines happens every year on the first Tuesday evening in August. This annual event is a time when communities come together with local law enforcement to create partnerships, children can learn, and much more. Mark your calendars for August 4th this year.

Altoona National Night Out

Tuesday, August 4 from 6 to 8 p.m. 

Sam Wise Youth Complex

Bring your family, bring a friend, invite a neighbor, and be part of the biggest event of the year! There will be community businesses and partners with FREE food and swag! There will be music, games, prizes, food and more.

Beaverdale National Night Out

Tuesday, August 4 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Enjoy an evening of FREE family fun at National Night Out at the intersection of Beaver & Franklin! There will be free hogs courtesy of Price Chopper, 50-cent ice cream cones at Snookies, appearances from DC and Marvel Superheroes, and you can visit with DM Police & Fire Department.

City of Urbandale

Tuesday, August 4 from 5 to 7:30 p.m.

Join us for the 17th Annual Urbandale National Night Out at the Urbandale Police Department (3740 86th Street)! 

National Night Out is one of our favorite events of the year—a chance to connect with our community, meet the officers who serve Urbandale, and enjoy an evening filled with family fun. 

Bring your family, invite your neighbors, and enjoy free food, games and activities, community vendors, giveaways and prizes and fun attractions for all ages.

Gray’s Woods National Night Out

Tuesday, August 4 at 6 p.m.

Four Mile Community Center

Join the Gray’s Woods Neighborhood Association for National Night Out on Tuesday, August 4, beginning at 6:00 PM at the Four Mile Community Center!

GWNA will be serving a taco bar with tacos, beans, rice, chips, salsa, and queso, followed by an ice cream sundae bar for dessert.

Bring your family. Bring your neighbor. Come enjoy good food, meet people from around the neighborhood, and spend the evening together as a community.

Food will be available while supplies last

Roosevelt High School Front Lawn

The Waterbury Neighborhood Association has partnered with the Waveland Park and Waveland Woods Neighborhoods for National Night Out 2026!

Join us on the Roosevelt lawn for a free evening of food, fun, and community spirit! Meet your neighbors and enjoy family-friendly activities including a bounce house, yard games, balloon animals, temporary tattoos, and more. Whether you’re new to the neighborhood or a longtime resident, National Night Out is a great opportunity to make connections and celebrate what makes our community special.

Come hungry, bring the family, and spend a summer evening getting to know the people who make our neighborhoods feel like home.

Polk County Sheriff’s Office National Night Out

Tuesday, August 4 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. – Sensory Friendly 5 to 5:30 p.m. (No lights or sirens)

National Night Out is a nationwide campaign dedicated to strengthening police-community partnerships and bringing neighbors together under positive circumstances. Come out, meet your local deputies, and help us make our neighborhoods a safer, more connected place to live. 

Sherman Hill Association: National Night Out

Big Grove Brewery

Join your neighbors for an evening of connection, community, and celebration at National Night Out — hosted in partnership with Big Grove Brewery.

This family-friendly gathering is a chance to meet fellow Sherman Hill residents, connect with local first responders, and enjoy great food, drinks, and conversation in one of Des Moines’ favorite neighborhood spaces. Expect casual vibes, community resources, activities for kids, and plenty of opportunities to mingle.

Whether you’re new to the neighborhood or a longtime resident, come say hello, build relationships, and help strengthen the heart of Sherman Hill.

Union Park United Methodist Church: National Night Out

Tuesday, August 4 from 5 to 7:00 p.m.

Union Park United Methodist Church in the parking lot

Enjoy a cookout, beverages, games and prizes to celebrate National Night Out. Members of the Des Moines Police Department and Fire Department will stop by and spend some time with our neighbors. Meet your neighbors and have some fun!

Backpacks with prefilled school supplies will be handed out to school-age children immediately before National Night Out until gone.
