Mark Earth Day with a delightful story time at the Nature Lodge! West Des Moines Parks and Recreation and West Des Moines Public Library have teamed up to bring you an engaging morning of earth-themed stories, songs, and activities. While not required, preregistration is helpful for planning purposes.
Earth Day Trash Bash Competition

Want to engage in a fun, meaningful way this Earth Day? Participate in the Trash Bash Competition on April 22, 2025! Teams of one to four will compete to collect the most trash at designated West Des Moines park sites. Form a team, choose a catchy team name, and get ready for a friendly competition. We’ll supply the equipment and instructions and reward your hard work with prizes and a free drink at the Pelican Post. A detailed email will be sent prior to the event with all the information you’ll need. Register your team today!

Come together for a valuable Bike Maintenance Workshop this Earth Day. A local Bike World expert will provide instruction on crucial bike care skills, including basic repairs and maintenance techniques. This is a fantastic chance to connect with other cycling enthusiasts, enhance your bike care skills, and ensure safety on your rides. Plus, registered participants will receive a free helmet, graciously provided by the West Des Moines Police

The Brenton Arboretum
Join The Brenton Arboretum as they celebrate Earth Day 2025 on Sunday, April 27th from 12:00-3:00 pm. This event is open to the public with no registration required. Come and buy a sweet treat from Baan Vaan Ice Cream as you stroll the arboretum and enjoy all the Earth Day activities.
All activities will occur around the Vista Room and on the lawn. In case of inclement weather, activities will be moved inside.
