From Pixar’s Cars to Classic Cars: Family Fun Awaits in Downtown Des Moines
Discover the Des Moines Concours d’Elegance on Sunday, Sept. 13.
If you’re looking for a unique family outing this September, the 2026 Des Moines Concours d’Elegance belongs on your calendar.
On Sunday, Sept. 13, downtown Des Moines will come alive as the Des Moines Concours transforms the internationally recognized John and Mary Pappajohn Sculpture Park into one of the Midwest’s premier automotive exhibitions. Best of all, admission is completely free.
Where Movie Magic Meets the Open Road
Whether your family has a budding car enthusiast or little ones who simply love Disney and Pixar’s Cars movies, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
One of this year’s featured attractions celebrates the real-life vehicles that inspired some of the beloved characters from Pixar’s Cars movies. It’s a fun opportunity for kids to connect movie magic with the real automobiles that helped bring those unforgettable characters to life.
Fun Around Every Corner
Beyond the incredible vehicles, families will find plenty to keep everyone entertained throughout the day. Race radio-controlled monster trucks, climb in army vehicles, and an interactive LEGO area lets kids build and create. Snap photos together, enjoy delicious food from local food trucks, and visit vendors throughout the event. The beautiful setting of the Pappajohn Sculpture Park makes it easy to spend the day exploring downtown while discovering something new around every corner.
Cars That Spark Conversations
Adults will appreciate the incredible craftsmanship and history behind the vintage, classic, exotic, and special-interest vehicles, while children will love seeing so many unique automobiles up close. It’s the kind of event that naturally sparks conversations, curiosity, and memories that families will talk about long after the day is over.
Another special feature this year celebrates the 100th Anniversary of Pontiac, showcasing one of America’s most iconic automotive brands. Whether you remember riding in one or are seeing these legendary vehicles for the first time, it’s a fascinating look at a century of automotive design and innovation.
What truly sets the Des Moines Concours apart, however, is its mission. The event isn’t just about celebrating beautiful automobiles—it’s also about giving back.
Driven by a Greater Purpose
Proceeds from the Des Moines Concours benefit two meaningful Iowa causes. Children’s Cancer Connection provides camps, educational programs, support outings, and other services for more than 850 Iowa families affected by childhood cancer each year, all at no cost to the families they serve. The event also supports the Des Moines Concours Automotive Heritage Grant, which helps fund tools, equipment, training, and classroom projects for high school automotive education programs across Iowa.
By attending, families are not only enjoying a free day of entertainment but also helping support programs that make a lasting difference throughout our state.
If you’re searching for a fun, affordable way to spend a Sunday together, the Des Moines Concours d’Elegance offers an experience the whole family can enjoy.
