Loews Kansas City Hotel: A Family-Friendly Kansas City Getaway

Loews Kansas City Hotel is located right in the heart of Kansas City, making it a convenient home base for exploring everything the city has to offer. But what really caught our attention? Loews is making the hotel itself part of the family adventure with its new Loews Little Legends: STEAM Explorers program.

Instead of simply checking into your room, dropping your bags, and heading back out, kids are encouraged to explore, discover, and get curious during their stay.

Meet Loews Little Legends: STEAM Explorers

Loews Hotels has expanded its family-friendly programming with a new experience created specifically for its youngest travelers.

The Loews Little Legends STEAM Explorers program incorporates science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM) into the travel experience through hands-on activities and opportunities for discovery. As parents, we love anything that keeps kids entertained while sneaking in a little learning along the way.

The program is part of the larger Loews Loves Families initiative and is designed to encourage kids to pay attention to the world around them, ask questions, explore, and experience their destination in a new way.

STEAM Explorer Kits

One of the coolest pieces of the Little Legends program is the STEAM Explorer Kit. These aren’t your typical hotel kids’ amenities. Each kit includes exploration tools such as:

  • Binoculars
  • A compass
  • Magnifying glass
  • Kaleidoscope
  • Interactive activity book

The activity book includes prompts and challenges encouraging kids to observe, experiment, and explore throughout their stay.

Pack the kit along while exploring Kansas City, use it around the hotel, or turn a simple walk into your family’s next adventure.

Discovery Days at Loews Kansas City

Loews Kansas City Hotel is also bringing Little Legends to life through special Discovery Day experiences at the hotel.

These activations give families another reason to build a little downtime into their itinerary instead of feeling like you need to rush from attraction to attraction all day long. Programming can include hands-on art, science, and culturally inspired activities that connect kids with Kansas City itself.

Discovery Day programming and activities may vary, so families should check with Loews Kansas City Hotel for current offerings during their stay.

Things to Do Near Loews Kansas City Hotel With Kids

One of the biggest perks of staying at Loews Kansas City Hotel is its downtown location. You can use the hotel as your home base and build an entire Kansas City family getaway around nearby attractions. Here are a few places families may want to add to their itinerary:

Kansas City Power & Light District

You don’t have to travel far to find restaurants and entertainment. The Kansas City Power & Light District is right in the downtown area, making it easy to grab a meal or explore without adding another long drive to your day.

Kansas City Convention Center

Loews Kansas City connects directly to the Kansas City Convention Center via a pedestrian bridge, which is especially convenient if you’re visiting for a convention, competition, event, or family activity being held downtown.

Union Station Kansas City

Union Station is always worth putting on your Kansas City family itinerary. Beyond seeing the gorgeous historic building, families can explore attractions such as Science City, catch a movie at the Extreme Screen Theatre, check out traveling exhibits, or simply walk around and see what you discover.

Crown Center

Another Kansas City favorite for families is Crown Center. Depending on when you visit, you’ll find shopping, restaurants (our favorite place is Fritz’s Railroad Restaurant!) seasonal events, and family attractions throughout the area. It’s an easy place to spend a few hours and combine with other nearby Kansas City stops.

LEGOLAND Discovery Center Kansas City

Have a LEGO lover in the family? LEGOLAND Discovery Center Kansas City is located at Crown Center and offers interactive LEGO experiences, rides, play areas, and plenty of opportunities for kids to build and create.

SEA LIFE Kansas City Aquarium

Also located at Crown Center, SEA LIFE Kansas City is an easy addition to a downtown Kansas City family itinerary. Kids can explore underwater habitats, see sharks and other marine life, and learn more about the creatures living beneath the surface.

An Easy Road Trip From Des Moines

Another reason Kansas City continues to be a great destination for Iowa families is how easy it is to get there.

From the Des Moines metro, Kansas City is roughly a three-hour drive, making it completely doable for a weekend getaway.

Leave after school on Friday, wake up Saturday morning ready to explore, and you can pack a surprising amount of adventure into a couple of days without spending an entire day traveling.

It’s also a great option for:

  • Three-day weekends
  • Fall and winter breaks
  • Spring break
  • Last-minute summer trips
  • Girls’ or parent getaways
  • A quick change of scenery

And because there are so many different things to experience in Kansas City, it’s a destination you can return to again and again without planning the exact same trip.
