A Roaring Good Time at Lions Park in Grimes, Iowa
After a long-awaited transformation, Lions Park in Grimes is officially back open, and it was well worth the wait. This beautifully renovated community park has something for every age, from adventurous climbers and toddlers to pickleball enthusiasts and families looking for a place to spend the afternoon. At the heart of the park stands Leo the Lion, the new mascot of Lions Park, welcoming families as they arrive.
The new playground is one of the biggest highlights. Older kids will love the towering play structure featuring three tall slides, plenty of climbing elements, and an enclosed design that helps parents feel more at ease while children explore. Younger visitors have their own dedicated toddler playground complete with smaller slides, a climbing wall, and age-appropriate play features. Around the playground, you will also find a plastic merry-go-round, several styles of swings, and soft turf surfacing that makes the play area comfortable and accessible.
One of the most exciting additions is the brand-new pickleball complex. The fully fenced area includes four courts, making it a fantastic destination for both casual players and league play. Walking and biking paths wind throughout the park, and one trail crosses a bridge that connects directly to the Hy-Vee Multiplex.
While the park doesn’t offer a lot of mature tree cover, there is an open-air shelter along with two large shade sails that provide a welcome break from the sun during warmer days.
In addition, there is an entryway to the creek for kids to stomp and explore in. Make sure you pack a towel and maybe some extra clothes if your kids really like to stomp and get wet!
