Duck Worth Wearing has two locations in Ames and Ankeny. Your children will feel right at home when they walk through the child-sized door to enter the store. They offer sizes newborn to youth size 16/18 as well as a large section of maternity wear. You can purchase it online and pick it up in-store. They have a mix of new and gently used toys and activities. Afterward, head across the street to shop for yourself at The Loft Resale.

Consignment: Bring your gently used clothing, shoes, toys, books, games, athletic gear, and equipment. Your items will be evaluated by an employee. Items not accepted will be returned to you that day. You can bring up to 50 items per day. You receive 40% of the sale for items under $30 and 50% of the sale for items over $30. When your items sell, the money goes directly into your account and you can choose store credit or cash. They accept consignment seasonally so check their website before bringing in your items. They do not accept consignments on Sundays. 

Fun Size Finds

Fun Size Finds is a new small business from two mamas – Allie White and Emily Biedenfeld. This thrift shop is located solely on Instagram. You can snag a fall sweater in your toddler’s size right from their feed. With Fun Size Finds, they are showcasing the treasure finds that have so much more life in them and getting them to a new cutie to wear instead of the dumpster.

Before you see the items to shop on their Instagram grid, they inspect, wash, iron, and photograph each piece before listing it for sale. Most of our pieces are in excellent used condition, and some are even new with tags on them. They take the hustle out of thrifting and make it easy and fun to shop second-hand. Their prices average between $5 and $15, and they offer local pickup or shipping. The items they sell drop as small collections on a regular basis, following seasons and themes. 

Kidding Around

Kidding Around offers sizes from newborn to junior and mother-to-be. Their boutique rack is located at the front of the store and is always changing with new finds such as athleisure wear from Lululemon and Athleta. In the back of the store, they have a rack of bamboo clothing with all those soft baby pajamas. Kidding Around also has a variety of new bows, teethers, and other baby items. There is a large section of dance and gymnastics leotards along with a variety of cleats and other sports attire. I love how it is organized into separate categories such as shorts, pants, and dresses so you can easily find what you are looking for. Once Upon a Child has expanded! They have a new event room that will be versatile and change often with the seasons.   Once Upon a Child keeps the aisles color-coded, organized, and clean. A majority of the clothing items that I have purchased, still have the original tags on them. They have the soft bamboo clothing that you see all over Instagram. Clothing sizes range from preemie to youth size 20. They also have baby equipment including strollers, bassinets, new and used toys, and almost everything you need for children at affordable prices. Tiny Tots to Teens is located in Indianola. They have infant-to-adult clothing, equipment, toys, and accessories. They also have some new clothing and accessories. They have free in-store or curbside pickup. You can also buy online and ship to your home. 

Consignment: Current in-season consignment drop-off days are Thursdays and Saturdays during normal business hours; no appointment needed. One regular-sized tote limit at a time.

Where The Child Things Are is a “thrifty boutique, so to speak” located in Urbandale. The owners thoughtfully hand-pick each item. They carry everything from clothes & shoes (sizes infant up to youth), books, toys, puzzles, games, and much more! You can purchase items online and pick them up in store. Shipping is also available on all items except toys, puzzles & games. It is open Tuesdays-Saturdays. 

Consignment: They buy items Tuesday-Thursday. Use their online calendar to set up an appointment. All items must be in like-new condition with no stains or tears. They will review your items and make you an offer on the spot using their “You make what we make” approach. Where: Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, 3900 Ashworth Rd, West Des Moines, IA 50265 

What: Gently used clothing, toys, furniture, maternity clothing 

Other: The Twice Blessed Consignment Sale is an annual fundraiser for the preschool, Shepherd’s Flock. 

Consignment: Consignors can register starting in January by visiting the church office for a Consignment Seller Packet. The packet costs $10 if you volunteer for the sale for two hours or $20 if you are unable to volunteer. Sellers get 70% of the sale price of their items.
