Rusty Stars Alpaca Farm in Madison County, Iowa
Nestled along a beautiful country road in Iowa, Rusty Stars Alpacas offers guests an opportunity to be up close with dozens of Alpacas. Having heard about them from others who have visited, my family couldn’t wait to make the short trip to Winterset, in Madison County, to experience the magic ourselves. Locally owned by Aron Shultz and Kari Shultz, Rusty Stars Alpacas is located just half an hour south of Des Moines. While we loved so many endearing features of the farm, here are our top three reasons others should consider planning a visit to Rusty Stars Alpaca Farm in Madison County, Iowa.
Alpacas!
The Alpacas are the star of the show! Guests are welcomed to the farm with a brief overview and are provided a cup of feed. The farm boasts over 30 Alpacas to interact with and during our visit, several of them were eager for a snack. Petting their soft wool and basking in their gentle nature is somehow therapeutic on a sunny Iowa afternoon.
Admission
Rusty Stars Alpacas is free to visit and accepts donations. This includes admission to the farm to enjoy the Alpacas and a cup of feed. For families on a budget, this is an excellent activity for a Saturday! My family packed lunch and stopped for a picnic after our visit to make a whole afternoon of the excursion. There are many fun things to do in and around Winterset!
